• To ensure the long-term beauty and durability of this material, the proper procedures for selection, installation and maintenance should be employed.
• When ordering your slate we recommend adding 10-15% extra to allow for breakage and chipped corners
• Please inquire if the slate you are interested in is suitable for outside if this is your application.  Not all slate is freeze/thaw stable.
• Slate can be cut with a diamond wet saw
• Sub floor recommendations are concrete or exterior grade plywood.
• Vertical applications may need an additional metal lath screwed into studs.
• The trowel that must be used for a medium bed installation is ½” or ¾”.
• Normal grout joints for slate should not be smaller than ¼”.  Slate is rarely true to square. Wider grout joints also help with lippage
• It is helpful to seal your slate with one coat before grouting.  This allows an easier grout clean up.
• Final coats of most Aquamix Sealers may be applied 48 hours after grouting is completed. Always test your sealer to be sure you like the effect.
• We recommend a neutral ph cleaner for a routine day-to-day clean.  Pamas carries Concentrated Tile and Stone Cleaner from Aquamix.  This will not etch your stone or break down your sealer.
• Every couple years, depending on your foot traffic, your installation will need a Deep Clean, meaning a heavy duty clean and de-grease. Over the years tile and grout will collect dirt and grime. Pamas carries products that will bring your slate back to its original look.
• Always read labels on cleaners and sealers thoroughly to avoid error in application.  The staff at Pamas can provide you with application tips.
